If your company is the Widget Company and most people know you sell widgets, do they know that you also sell wudgets or woogets?  They may know you sell one item, but how many other items do you sell. You may sell different brands of the same service. Do they know what areas you service? You may be in Small Town and customers don’t know if you provide your service in Big Town or Middle Town. With a web site you can list all these things and let people know how much experience you have or how long you have been in business.

Your business cards, news ads, and Yellow pages can list your web site for your customers to visit and see what you have to offer. Perhaps some service changes monthly or weekly or even by the season. Often you can offer specials to promote your service.

Your email address will look more professional if it is yourname@yourbusiness.com than yourname@hotmail.com and you can have all the email from your web site forwarded to your present email.

Normally, the worst reason for doing anything is "because everyone else is..."

Not every small business needs a Web site. If you have as many customers as your business can handle and you have no desire to grow larger, then there's no point in having a web presence.

Below are a few questions that can help determine if you need a web site.

Would you consider NOT listing your business in the yellow pages?
If the answer is no, then you may also need a web site simply to create your business presence and make yourself available to your clients. Unlike a “Bricks & Mortar” shop, a website has it's doors open 24/7. Unlike written material, a website can and should have the most up-to-date information.

If you answered even one of these questions with a yes, then the chances are you need or should have a web site.
